Bring something unique to the table this year with these holiday recipes that incorporate Blue Owl Brewing beer.
Jane’s Jubilant Cranberry Sauce
One of our favorite holiday brews, Jubilberry is a Sour Cranberry Ale brewed with ginger and oats. It seems like a no-brainer to use Jubilberry when making this Thanksgiving staple. Quick and easy to make, our friend Jane gave us her homemade recipe for cranberry sauce using Jubilerry for an extra kick.
What You’ll Need:
- 1 – 24 oz bag of cranberries
- 1 – 1/4 cup of sugar
- Orange zest from one orange
- 1 – 12oz. can of Jubilberry
- Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Directions:
In a saucepan combine cranberries, sugar, orange zest, couple shakes of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and one 12oz. can of Jubilberry. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium, and simmer 12-15 min., stirring occasionally, until cranberries pop and it thickens.Remove from heat and let it cool completely. It will continue to thicken.
Steve’s Professor Black Sourdough
This is one recipe you’ll knead for the table! Our dear friend Steve gave Blue Owl Brewing this sourdough recipe some years ago and we still refer to it every year. A step-by-step beginner’s guide to delicious homemade bread with the addition of our Professor Black – Sour Cherry Stout. Nothing beats fresh bread on the table and this one will surely intrigue your guests! What You’ll Need:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (or rye flour)
- 1/4 tsp yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup Professor Black Sour Cherry Stout (Save what remains in the can for sipping while you bake).
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
Directions:
- Combine everything in a large bowl and mix it up using a big spoon(or what have you) until it forms a ball.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit for at least 8 hours, or overnight is great too.- Dust a clean surface with flour and dump your dough ball onto it.
Punch down and fold over the dough exactly ten times, and then mold it into a nice oval shape.- Place the ball on parchment paper and into a bowl.
- Cover with a tea towel or loosely placed plastic wrap. Leave to stand for two hours.
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and place a dutch oven or other heavy pot inside to preheat.
- Remove the towel or plastic wrap and sprinkle the top with a little flour. With a paring knife, score a shallow cut lengthwise down the center of the dough.
- Lift the parchment paper with the dough and place it into the Dutch oven or pot
(yes, with the parchment paper). Cover immediately and place in oven to bake.- Lower the oven to 340 degrees and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the lid and bake for another 20min.
- Let rest for at least two hours. Slice and serve!
