You heard right. One thousand free tacos. On Tuesday, May 5 at 3 p.m., Super Chilango is kicking off its grand opening the only way that really matters: by feeding people.

No wristbands, no RSVP, no weird rules. Just tacos. First come, first served at Blue Owl Brewing, because good things shouldn’t be complicated.

Once the madness fades, the tacos don’t. Super Chilango is sticking around for good, taking up permanent residence inside Blue Owl Brewing and turning the beloved East Austin taproom into your next go-to for tacos that hit hard and beer that goes down easy.

Taco Spot + Brewery = East Austin Magic

Blue Owl Brewing, now helmed by Tony Norris, is leaning into the kind of beer you actually want to drink twice. Meanwhile, Paul Sedillo of Super Chilango brings the same energy to the food: nothing fancy, everything dialed-in, made to keep you coming back for more.

“Tony’s approach to beer is exactly how we think about tacos,” said Sedillo. “Keep it honest, keep it tight, and make sure people leave smiling.”

Blue Owl’s legendary sour program and its laid-back classics like Bob’s Fine Beers are still front and center. But now, with tacos in the mix, everything just clicks.

“We’re not chasing hype,” said Norris. “We’re making beer people love. Great beer deserves killer tacos. It’s that simple.”

Why 1,000 Free Tacos?

Because words take too long.

Super Chilango cooks small-batch, runs tight, and launches flavors that land fast. If you’ve followed Sedillo’s past projects from Houston Chronicle, Eater, and CultureMap, you already know this crew doesn’t do safe or precious.

The taco drop is the first taste of something bigger.

The Afterparty (AKA Business As Usual)

Once the last taco is gone, Super Chilango officially fires up for regular service inside Blue Owl Brewing.

Hours:

  • Wednesday–Friday: 3 PM – 10 PM
  • Saturday: 12 PM – 10 PM
  • Sunday: 12 PM – 8 PM

(Closed Monday & Tuesday—except for Cinco de Mayo, obviously.)

Translation: skip the line next time, the tacos will still be there waiting.
